Effects of urban development on water quality of the Llapi River(Kosovo)

Session

Food Science and Technology

Description

The main objective of this study was to perform the effects of urban development on waterquality of the Llapi River. Statistical studies have been carried out by calculating of basicstatistical parameters, anomalies (extremes and outliers) and correlation coefficients betweendifferent pairs of variables. The statistical regression analysis has been found a high positivecorrelation relationship between turbidity and EC, hardness, Ca 2+ and SO 4 2- . EC showed highsignificant positive relationship with turbidity, hardness, COD, Ca 2+ , Mg 2+ , and SO 4 2- .Consumption of KMnO 4 , showed high significant positive relationship with COD, TOC, NO 2 -and PO 4 3- (possible sign of waste waters from settlements influence). From the results of fieldwork and laboratory analyses it was found out that river water quality not fulfill the criteria setby the World Health Organization and the distribution of pollutants indicatedanthropogenic sources of pollutants mainly from Podujeva’s and waste waters.
