The importance of reading philosophy

Session

Education and Development

Description

Philosophy is universally applicable and interdisciplinary by nature, as the oldest and most basic academic discipline. Through the study led by classical and contemporary philosophical texts, thinkers and traditions, the lovers of philosophy sharpen their critical and analytical thinking abilities; deepen their capacities to reason about ethical principles and moral problems; improve communication skills; and cultivate openness to new ideas. Philosophy is not just an academic discipline, but first of all, it is a perspective of life. Philosophy stands very close to us, in our daily lives, in any questions or dilemmas that we face each day. Here, we tend to make an introduction of four fields of philosophy and some of the questions pertaining to each of these fields, to understand what philosophy really is, and why we should get closer to it, why we should read it. Philosophy increases the ability of readers to understand relationships between different fields of study as well as deepen the sense of understanding the diversity of human experience. In this paper we intend to create curiosity and orientation for both free readers and those who seek to deepen their knowledge in the foundation of philosophy. In the confusion of information that we experience today, philosophy is the one that can guide us through its methods and rational thought in which it operates, to select the right information and to make us able to communicate it clearly.
