How to combine purpose, focus, methods, and context during a group activity

Session

Journalism, Media and Communication

Description

Creating relationships through interaction and communication has always had a positive impact on the development of human identity. People have existed in groups since the beginnings of history. The formation of groups is part of the human nature by affecting emotionally, intellectually. Participation in problem solving and decision-making helps ensure the continued engagement of group members. There are different types of groups, some of which we may be part of, and there are many benefits we can have from participating in these groups. One of the classes of a university study program is also a group. During the course of the program "Language Communication", the students of the first year, in the Bachelor study program in "Preschool Education" and "Teacher for Primary Education", we found out that it is almost impossible for students sitting in the last rows to see the lecturer and establish visual contact with him. Even so, in this way, student placement becomes a co-operation between them, while group activities and discussions are a promising method of learning. We came to the conclusion that group activity, lessening of the one-sided lecture time, brought about a collaborative debate, which increased the ability of most students to analyze the side of a problem. Thus, the purpose, the focus, the methods and the context in the transmission of knowledge during the learning process are achieved through learning through group discussion.
