Social Entrepreneurship for Sustainable Development
Session
Management Business and Economics
Description
The role of social entrepreneurship has become increasingly important, particularly following economic downturns. In developing countries, limited government resources impede the ability to address diverse social needs while fostering inclusivity and environmental sustainability. Despite existing legislation for social enterprises, the formal registration process remains underdeveloped, leading social entrepreneurship to often take shape through entities such as non-governmental organizations (NGOs). This study combines a literature review with qualitative research, using semi-structured interviews with NGOs in Kosovo to explore their objectives, challenges, and contributions to sustainable development. The findings reveal that NGOs largely function as social enterprises, advancing economic, social, and environmental goals, positioning them as key drivers of sustainable development. However, achieving these goals requires strong coordination and commitment from government, NGOs, and the private sector.
