Description
Aim: This study aims to enhance the understanding of successful aging in the Republic of Kosovo by identifying the key factors that impact individuals' physical and mental health in their sixth decade of life and beyond. This study will use a detailed questionnaire to collect data on the challenges and facilitators influencing the aging population. Methodology: The study population comprised elderly individuals aged 65 years and older. From this group, 101 participants who met the inclusion criteria were selected. These criteria included being aged 65 or above, possessing the ability to communicate effectively, absence of hearing or vision impairments, no history of mental health issues, and willingness to participate in the study. Results: The results show a positive trend of older people in many areas of their lives, with a strong focus on maintaining independence, physical and mental health, and maintaining warm and trusting relationships. The results show that 69% of the respondents answered positively to the questions posed, declaring that they agree, while 9% of them declared as undecided and 22% declared that they disagree. Through the factorial analysis, three factors were extracted, which account for 55% of the variance: Factor I: Healthy lifestyle; Factor II: Adaptive Coping; Factor III: Engagement with life. Conclusion: Based on the results of this study, it is recommended that this topic be investigated with studies that include different sample groups because determining the perceptions of the elderly about successful aging and life satisfaction to improve their health and carry out interventions aimed at improving these perceptions can contribute to improving the health of the elderly.
