Testing and Deployment Time Performance Improvement for Telecommunications Services using SDR and Docker
Session
Computer Science and Communication Engineering
Description
With the continuous growing data traffic and new types of applications current infrastructure deployments for telecommunications services has become time critical. It is set to become even bigger issue with evolution to the fifth generation of mobile communications which promises to support a wide range of vertical markets. These types of markets are expected to have a diverse range of features and performance needs. Thus, different types of approaches are being proposed by telecommunications regulation bodies, academia as well as industry vendors to think beyond the existing services testing and infrastructure provisioning models. This article explores applications of network function virtualization and software defined networking as a new way of managing the network resulting in automation of testing and deployment of infrastructure services. Particularly, it shows how Docker container technology in conjunction with Software Defined Radio can be utilized to provide a faster testing and deployment of cellular infrastructure as a service.
