Description
Now days Mitrovica is not known as industry city and as a city with many technological advantages Mitrovica, passed a heavy pollution period during the years 1927-2000, fortunately entered the process that uses clean technologies to protect the entire environment of this area and beyond. Eventually, with the idea of making a prosperity and environment clean city, it aims to be a modern city of sustainable development and take on new challenges. Waste separation and promotion of recycling constitutes a legal obligation for the municipality. As a new concept, waste separation at source and differentiated collection require a gradual approach and a great deal of commitment to educating and raising awareness among citizens. The municipality of Mitrovica has decided to take the first steps of this process by engaging schools of all levels in this city as well as public institutions. To begin this process, the municipality will provide the necessary infrastructure, which will consist of: a set consisting of three metal or plastic containers with a capacity of 1.1 m3, to be placed in the yard of each school and institution. Color containers will guide users to waste disposal in three streams. The main problems that appear in the management of municipal waste in Mitrovica are: inadequate management policies and services not at the proper level compared to developed countries.
