The purpose of this paper is to investigate gaps in the application of managerial theories in daily practice by SMEs managers in Dukagjini region. Knowledge and application of these theories in managerial practices will improve and facilitate the achievement of the planned objectives. Reflecting the characteristics and needs in the implementation of effective practices, will support the advancement of the overall performance of SMEs. Research data shows that SMEs are committed to implement a managerial process with all functions, highlighting the failures of not implementing them according to the recommendation of various scholars. Despite the importance of the external environment, SMEs managers in this region should focus on deep analysis of the internal environment, in particular on human resources, to select the development strategy by which the set objectives will be achieved and overcome. Management activities related to communication, environmental re-search, personnel development, implementation of changes should be raised to the next level of implementation to realize the planned performance.
