Ferro-Nickel Slag (Drenas, Kosova) Use on Production of Mixed Cement for High Performance Concrete

Session

Civil Engineering, Infrastructure and Environment

Description

In this paper would be presented a research activities in concrete production using a mixture composition of ferronickel slag. The use of this type of slag depends on physical chemical parameters, which is produced through a number of technological processes where its main components are; SiO2, CaO, MgO, FeO, Fe2O3, MnO. Due to the high acidity, which implies the high liquidity of the liquidator, it is very important to determine the ratio between the structural phases, which would allow for good hydraulic and pozzolanic properties. In general the process of producing this type of slag dependents on different factors such as ,temperature, the concentration of the glass phase, the cooling mode, the granulometric composition, etc. Granulometric composition - size, consistence, initial strength, initial setting time and maximum strength have been determined by the physical and mechanical tests. Mixed mixtures-CM II with ferronickel admixture generally meet the needed requirements such as mechanical, physical and durability properties, but if their components include additional fly ash-like components from the burning of the coals, then it will show particularly advanced properties. Fly - ash with active CaO, active SiO2 and Al2O3 would be the best solution to improve the CaO+MgO/SiO2 ratio, which actually determine the crucial parameter for a cement with high strength at early ages.
