Impact of planning and “profit driven construction”, in “Unsustainability of the city of Prishtina”

Description
Sustainability of the city of Prishtina and its construction as instrument for implementation of development plans, is the subject of this research paper. Analyses of the different ongoing construction (individual dispersed housing districts, multistory housing of no environmental and energy standards considered, accompanied with road and other infrastructure), compared with initial planning documents and parameters of sustainable development was done. Methodology used for the evaluation is “New Urban Agenda”, by its strategic objectives, priorities with the end result aimed of sustainable development. Prishtina among other cities in Kosovo are facing rapid urbanization due to several reasons, mainly economic challenges, like employment, migration from rural areas and other cities, new housing construction, road infrastructure construction. Challenges that face the city of Prishtina concerning construction are not as as reply to the needs of the population, but as so called “FOR PROFIT CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY”, sector that employs people and other technologies on behalf of Urban Sustainability and its Development.
