VULNERABILITY AND SECURITY AND IN XGS-PON AND NG-PON2 TECHNOLOGIES
Session
Information Systems and Security
Description
Network security in general is attracting a great deal of attention from engineering community all over the world. Today most of the electronic equipment that we possess in our homes and offices have a degree of “smartens” and most of them require network connection to operate properly. Every equipment that is connected to a network, can be subject of security breach. This fact drawn a great deal of attention to the vulnerability of fixed access networks with special attention towards Fiber to the Home (FTTH) technologies. The reason is simple, FTTH provides a gateway to our data and privacy and if not addressed properly this can cause a very big security issue.
In the paper, we will address main security threats of FTTH technologies in general, with particular focus being on the future FTTH technologies such as XGS-PON (10G passive optical networks) and NG-PON2 (Next generation passive optical network). We will underline and analyze the latest security updates and best practices to address this security threats that FTTH technologies face today.
