Education and Development

Description

Technological advances, especially in the area of artificial intelligence (AI) are altering the role of education and giving it a lot of importance. Since its release in November 2022, ChatGPT has rapidly received a lot of interest from the field of education, especially in teaching and learning languages. ChatGPT can significantly impact writing skills including creativity and vocabulary expansion, however, it has both challenges and benefits which should be addressed carefully. This study aims to explore higher education students’ perceptions and experiences with the usage of ChatGPT when writing different assignments throughout their studies at the university. The primary objective is to investigate their perceptions and frequency of usage of ChatGPT to complete their written tasks required by professors and to identify which areas students find the most help from the AI Chatbot ChatGPT and what challenges they face. The study will apply a survey design, collecting data through Google Forms from the Department of English Language and Literature students of the University of Prishtina. The results of the study will ensure robust and meaningful findings that can inform both immediate departmental improvements and future academic research.
