ICT-Driven Sustainable Agriculture in Kosovo: A Pathway Toward SDG 2 and SDG 12

Session

Description

This paper examines the role of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in promoting sustainable agriculture in Kosovo. Using a qualitative desk-based review of secondary data from academic literature, policy reports, and institutional strategies, the study explores how ICT contributes to Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 2 (Zero Hunger) and SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production). Findings reveal that digital tools—such as mobile advisory platforms, precision-farming systems, and online market networks—enhance productivity, resource efficiency, and market connectivity for farmers. However, progress remains constrained by limited rural broadband access, low digital literacy, and fragmented policy coordination. The paper highlights ongoing national and donor-supported initiatives, including the Digital Agriculture Programme and Action Plan 2025–2028, and proposes strategic actions to strengthen infrastructure, training, and public–private partnerships. The study concludes that integrating ICT within agricultural policy frameworks can accelerate Kosovo’s transition toward sustainable, competitive, and climate-resilient agri-food systems.
