The challenges of renovating multi-family apartments constructed in Kosovo before the year 2000
Session
Architecture and Spatial Planning
Description
Kosovo is characterized by the construction of a large number of multi -family apartments especially after 1999, when the demand for housing was very high. The multifamily apartments constructed before 1999 are characterized by a lack of thermal insulation, which is currently one of the main challenging elements in Kosovo. Although the Public Housing Enterprise is now involved in the renovation of these buildings, the lack of sufficient funding from the Municipality makes it difficult to carry out the necessary work. As a result, residents are often required to contribute financially to these processes. Inadequate insulation increases residents heating expenses. Investments in thermal insulation, window replacement, and lighting in shared spaces are essential, but at the same time, they require high costs.
