Groundwater flooding-Case study Republic of Kosovo

Description
Groundwater flooding is defined as a temporary process of the rise of the water table results near or above the Earth’s surface, while the mechanisms are different from river floods, both spatially and temporally. Since the entry into force of the Flood Directive 2007/60/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council, groundwater flooding risk has drawn increased attentione in Europe. The Directive creates a framework for the assessment and measures to be taken to reduce the risk of floods and to draw up plans for their management. This article addresses with developments related to groundwater flooding in the territory of the Republic of Kosovo. The study highlighted that a significant number of areas in the territory of Kosovo are affected by groundwater flooding.
