Abstract
The aim of this thesis is to identify design challenges and opportunities of a Music Centre. The thesis is based on two fields of study: Architecture and Music, and the relation between them. The research was intiated through a series of questions that architects confront when asked to create something that can be undertood by everyone. It develops on the idea that a concept related to both fields will sum up the desired result. Translating Music elements into form in Architecture,is the task in order to create an Auditorium and a Music Centre that adapts both worlds.London is in need of a good Music Centre, in order to get it’s best conductor Sir Simon Rattle back. Designing a 17,000 sm Centre for Music is a challenging task.Creating a Cultural Hub between the London Music Centre,Barbican Centre and Guildhall School of Music&Drama. Making the space comfortable for the guests, great acoustics for the musicians, and plentiful support, learning, and exhibition spaces. The methods used to accomplish this thesis are: • analytical method (textual description) • graphic method (architectural project) Working through this thesis I have gained more extensive knowledge about designing Music halls, new design methods, Technology development, acoustics&lighting in Architecture, and more.
