This paper discusses the state of research in the field of Knowledge Management. It outlines developments in the last few decades, introduces various perspectives, and argues that Knowledge Management is a critical factor affecting organizational performance. The paper introduces and discusses unfamiliar concepts and expressions and provides critical information on various aspects of knowledge and Knowledge Management such as definitions, various views about knowledge, research done in the field, research gaps, dynamics in the field of knowledge, and the future of knowledge management. Finally, the paper contributes toward a better understanding of the knowledge chain model and the corresponding Knowledge Management ontology.
