Road Safety Audit Interaction Between Pedestrians and Vehicles in The Junction
Session
Civil Engineering, Infrastructure and Environment
Description
A road segment or a road junction is considered dangerous when there are identified conflict points, high traffic load, lack of safety equipment, all those elements that pose high risk for the traffic participants. All over the world, road safety audit is mainly carried out to describe an independent inspection of a road project that is designed or already implemented. The main objective of a road safety audit is to identify all the problematic points of a project that are in conflict with a road safety system, and bring these concerns to the attention of responsible institutions, the public, or other stakeholders. Furthermore, recommendations are also given for the appropriate actions against potential identified risks. In the specific case of this research, northwest of Kalabria neighbourhood, the junction 'Tahir Zajmi' - 'M9' (road F. Kosova - Prishtina), we are dealing with conflict points vehicle-pedestrian. The aim of this research was as well to identify the preventive measures which could eliminate these dangerous points, using the "Slippery window" method, elaborating 200m road segment, the section where more than two pedestrian accidents occurred. Preventive measures include the rehabilitation of infrastructure with passive and active road safety equipment in the junction, and the nearby rail station infrastructure.
