Medicine and Nursing
Description
Appendicitis is one of the most common diseases which most often requires intervention for urgent surgery at the age of the child. It is reported in both men and women, most often in the second and third decade of life, so it can attack children as well. Changes in anatomical position cause different clinical presentation.
Aim: To determine the ratio of acute appendicitis according to age, gender and place of residence, to determine the clinical forms of diagnosis of acute appendicitis and to gain new knowledge and experience about these cases and the nursing care that is provided to patients.
Methods: The study is of prospective type, where part of the study was conducted at the Regional Hospital of Gjilan in the Department of Surgery.
The study analyzed 394 patients operated on for acute appendicitis in the SPGJ in the period (January - December 2020) and I received permission from the office for data protection from the office of Health Director in Gjilan.
Tables and graphs were used for presentation, as well as computer programs were used. Data analysis in this study includes the statistical situation analyzed through the EXEL program of pediatric patients operated on for appendicitis and their analysis.
Results: As we can see, there are 394 patients operated on for acute appendicitis in the General Hospital of Gjilan, Department of Surgery, in the period January-November 2020, and out of 394, patients analyzed for acute appendicitis 240 (60.91%) were male and 154 (39.10%) were female. Most of the patients treated in this center were from Gjilan with 225 (57.1%) patients of the most attacked age groups were over 15 years old, while 156 (39.6%) of cases were 11-15 years old with 97 (24.6%) of cases 0- 5 years with 71 (81%) of cases and 6-10 years with 70 (17.8%) of cases. Pain in appendicitis is always present starts from the abdomen around the navel and after a few hours shifts down to the right side, muscle tightness on the right side of the abdomen, low body temperature, chills. The pain evolves with time, it increases with an inferior extension over 24 hours in more than 50% of cases. The symptoms of appendicitis in children can be very different, if the abdominal pain in children worsens during movement, when breathing deeply, during coughing or sneezing the possibility that he or she has appendicitis becomes more likely, it is important however to look for other signs of appendicitis in children.
