Description
Despite the development of technology in recent years in the field of medicine, the importance of the application of alternative medicine has not decreased. Our goal is to identify the reasons for using alternative medicine and the degree of reliability of its use in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases.
The research was accomplished with 107 participants, of which 92 were female, and 15 were male. Participants are aged 18 – 49 years. For measuring the participants' attitudes about the application of alternative medicine, the Complementary Alternative Medicine Questionnaire (Arthur, 2009) was used, which was translated and adapted for the nursing field. The questionnaire was completed online through Google Forms.
The results show that the reason for using alternative medicine is not only after the failure of treatment through conventional medicine but also for the prevention (24.5%) and treatment (23.6%) of diseases. The participants think alternative medicine is necessary, and 84.9% think its use in Kosovo should increase.
The research revealed the reasons for practicing alternative medicine, which offers different products and natural therapies. The results of these methods have increased the credibility of alternative medicine to improve the physical and mental health of the individual. Furthermore, to prevent and cure many diseases.
