Esophageal Varices in Patient with Myelodysplastic Syndrome: A Case Report
Session
Medicine and Nursing
Description
Oesophagal varices are abnormal expansions of the veins of the oesophagus, which can cause bleeding and be life- threatening. The causes of portal vein thrombosis include diseases with different etiologies of the liver. Myelodysplastic syn- drome (MDS) is a group of blood disorders characterised by ineffective hematopoiesis, producing malformed blood cells. Here we present a rare case where the consequence of esophageal varices is myelodysplastic syndrome. A 44-year-old female was admitted to our clinic due to pain in the right quadrant and lethargy. In the endoscopy, there were middle esophageal varices. A year ago, she had a band ligation of esophageal varices. She was diagnosed with myelodysplastic syndrome 6 years ago. In com- puted tomography with angiography, there was partial thrombosis of v. portae. The varicose veins were ligation again and he was released from the hospital in good condition.
