Aim: Understanding the complex anatomy of the knee is essential to understanding the mechanisms of injuries is high, especially in sports such as basketball. Methods: The paper is a literature review. The collection of literature was carried out using searches in scientific databases such as Google Scholar, Sage, ResearchGate, Scopus. The search was conducted in English, including specific terms such as: "basketball", "knee anatomy", "knee injury", "basketball knee injuries", "sports injury prevention strategies", "lower extremities injuries in basketball", "risk factors of knee injuries" and the like. Research includes an in-depth analysis and a reasoned interpretation of the selected literature in accordance with APA style standards. Results: Based on the analyzed research, the most important factor is gender. Women (0.20) have a higher risk of knee injuries compared to men (0.07). An important factor is also the basketball position, female players in the wing positions had ACL surgeries (17.4%) unlike to the players of the guard positions (15.6%) or the center positions (8.6%). Also, the neuromuscular training program has reduced the knee injury rate in young basketball players by 36% with p=0.01 significance. Conclusions: Gender, basketball position, age, rapid uncontrolled landings are factors that lead to knee injuries in basketball players, as well as neuromuscular training programs have an important effect in preventing the risk of knee injuries
