Operational Research and Their Approach in Practical Actuality

Description
Operational Research (OR), as defined by INFORMS (Institute for Operations Research and Management Science) "is intended to provide a rational basis in the decisionmaking process by trying to understand and structure complex situations and to use this understanding to anticipate the behavior of different systems to improve their performance. By using analytical and numerical techniques to develop and modify mathematical and computational models for organizational systems consisting of humans, machines and procedures, new behaviors are realized different from those previous". The systems studied in Operational Research have in common the possibility of being modeled mathematically on the basis of a feasible and achievable quantitative description. In its most basic form, Operational Research can be seen as a scientific approach to problem solving, it extracts the essential elements of the problem into a model, which is then analyzed to provide an optimal solution for implementation. The mathematical details and specific techniques used to construct and analyze these models can be very sophisticated and addressed elsewhere in this use. The focus of this paper is on the approach, a brief summary of the historical origins of Operational Research, and will lead to a detailed description of its methodology.
