Orthodontic Treatment of Tooth Transposition

Session

Dental Science

Description

Tooth transposition is the positional exchange between two adjacent teeth on the same side of the jaw. Various types of dental transposition exist, and their classification depends on the position and type of the involved teeth. This presentation aims to discuss the prevalence of tooth transposition, its etiology, orthodontic treatment planning, applied orthodontic appliances, and the implications of various factors that may lead to complications during the correction of transposed teeth. Careful attention must be given to the individual patient's situation, including aesthetics, function, periodontal status, and patient cooperation, to determine whether orthodontic treatment should involve extraction or correction of the transposed teeth. Correcting tooth transposition is one of the most challenging types of treatment, requiring accurate diagnosis, precise execution of biomechanics, and multidisciplinary collaboration. The success of orthodontic correction of tooth transposition relies on meticulous treatment planning and patient cooperation.
