Description
In the pursuit of Education for All, equitable access to quality education has been the mission of the Department of Education. In specific, the Alternative Delivery Mode (ADM) of instruction became an option to Filipino learners not only in the pre-pandemic period like in the case of Open High School (OHS) but also in the new normal scenario through the Modular Distance Education. However, as the COVID-19 pandemic affected our schools, there is no existing literature that features the pedagogical transition in ADM for OHS program from the old to new normal instruction. It is on this premise that this research aimed to determine the extent of ADM program delivery as perceived by the 40 Students and 24 Teachers from Grades 8-10 of Bayawan National High School, DepEd-Bayawan City Division. An embedded design or a mixed method design was utilized for the data collection procedure while weighted mean and Braun and Clarke’s thematic analysis were used as statistical tools for tabulating and explaining the results. The findings indicated that there were “high” extent of ADM program delivery in both the old instruction and new normal period. Furthermore, it disclosed that attending school and completing secondary education were the highest learning indicators while handling student behaviors and establishing learning expectations in ADM class as pedagogical transition took place has emerged as main challenges in the current context of education. In view thereof, creation of modified modules and constant consultation for monitoring students’ progress were part of the recommendation.
