Digestive Tract Enzymes (Amylase, Lipase and Protease)
Session
Medicine and Nursing
Description
Introduction: Enzymes are natural proteins that function as "catalysts" during many different biological reactions within the cells of the human body. Digestion is the process of breaking down and absorbing food and is aided by fluids containing digestive en- zymes secreted by the salivary glands, pancreas and acid produced in the stomach. Working method: 77 patients of different age groups were included in the research, of which 45 were in the study group and 32 were in the control group. All the patients were from the Dukagjini Region, the samples were collected for a period of 6 months, the analyzes were done with Roche-Cobas Integra 400 and Cobas-Elecsys E-411 devices in the Alpha Laboratory in Pejë. Results: In our work, we obtained significantly high values of amylase and lipase enzyme concentrations (P < 0.0001) between the patients of the working group and the control group. Conclusions: Lipase is, today, preferred as a test over amylase due to a higher sensitivity, especially in cases of acute pancreatitis due to the use of alcohol and hypertriglyceridemia. It also tends to remain elevated longer than amylase, making it more reliable for analysis because its values persist for more than 24 hours. It is also recommended that in the future research be done on a higher number of patients to verify our results.
